Oregon Natural Resources Education Program

Scheduled Workshops

ODS/ONREP Teaching Fire At Outdoor School -*In-Person Join us to experience and explore a new Outdoor School lesson plan that’s all about fire! This lesson, which follows the BEETLES model, provides guidance for 3.5 to 7 hours of engaging and timely explorations of fire science and fire ecology for students participating in in-person Outdoor School programs. During the workshop, we will examine and apply NGSS frameworks, trauma-informed care practices, social-emotional learning, and ODS self-evaluation tools, all using the new fire lesson as a context for learning. Date: March 3, 2022 Location: Eagle Point, OR

Teaching the Whole Student With Nature Journaling - *In-Person Join us at the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy’s Rogue River Preserve (about 15 miles north of Medford) to experience and explore nature journaling, a flexible, engaging, and adaptable teaching tool that helps students develop both scientific (NGSS) and social-emotional competencies. Along the trail, we will stop to practice close observation, inquiry, and connection-building using a series of nature journaling prompts. We will also practice giving feedback on journal entries to promote a growth mindset, model outdoor facilitation strategies, and discuss how to incorporate nature journaling in any learning context. Date: March 28, 2022 Location: Eagle Point, OR

New! Exploring Your Environment with Project Learning Tree and Tribal History/Shared History (SB 13) - *In-Person In this workshop, we will support you in getting students outside by investigating an outdoor environment in the Corvallis area. Participants will explore how curriculum based on scientific understanding, such as Project Learning Tree’s K-8 Explore Your Environment, can be combined with Tribal History/Shared History (SB 13) lessons which were created by the nine federally recognized Tribes in Oregon for educators. All participants will receive a copy of Project Learning Tree’s (PLT) Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide. Date: April 8, 2022 Location: Corvallis, OR
